Our Story

Our History

Painted Cow Art Gallery has been here for over 2 decades and was started by Maureen Dosier, an artist that moved to Louisa from Florida. After Dozier passed away, the gallery was purchased in February 2014 by local business owners Tim and Lelia Robinson. With a passion to continue the mission of showcasing and marketing local arts and crafts the new owners visited other art galleries in neighboring towns and states for ideas and inspiration. They learned that adding other businesses increased customer foot traffic. In July 2017, the business was renamed Masterpiece Café and Painted Cow Art Gallery as the gallery added a full-service coffee shop with specialty coffee drinks made from espresso beans personally-selected by the owners. Responding to customer requests the café has added made from scratch baked goods, smoothies, breakfast and lunch items with sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads on the menu.

The café today is a bustling anchor to an ongoing downtown revitalization effort that has seen the Robinsons renovate the historic Garden Theater, launching The Mountain Movers Theatre Company & adding The Junction and Masterpiece Courtyard venues managed by Three Sisters, an event rental and design business. From the beginning the Robinsons mission with the gallery and café has been and continues to be to provide a platform for local artists to display and sell their beautiful creations. Along the way a great café has been added that is a catalyst to promote dozens of regional artists whose talent produce pottery, sculpture, wood working, jewelry, & paintings.
